Today’s drive takes you along free airline coast towards the small village of Haast, then inland to the lovely lakeside township of Wanaka. Wanaka is a highlight of the New Zealand itinerary. Wanaka is, a number of ways, in order to Queenstown. It sits round the banks to a stunning lake, Lake Wanaka, and is really a base for your two world-class skifields, Cardrona and Treble Cone. Wanaka feels just a little more relaxed than Queenstown, and layout, design of city centre seems less fussy.
